All about Fave Pay

Fave has two sections of their business one is Fave Deals and one is Fave Pay. I presume many people of age would know what Fave deals does. It used to be a big deal with “Groupons”. It actually means Coupons bought in bulk and hence Group Buy and bring down the prices of certain services and products. These trends are now long gone and the current trend is known as e-wallets and online payments. This is where Fave Pay comes in.

Fave deals isn’t gone in entirety but it still involved buying deals from different categories with F&B deals coming at some thing like $30 worth of vouchers at $27 (Something like that which gives you a 5% or 10% discount)

There’s nothing much to talk about but generally signing up with the referral code gives you $1 discount by using my referral code FAVEPAUL62 or by clicking on this link here https://m.myfave.com/singapore/invite/FAVEPAUL62

Most people would have known that you can double stack your rewards by adding Grab Pay for your payment methods. However, since Grab Pay have nerfed all payment rewards, it’s better for you to add a credit card to double stack your payment rewards. DO check your MCC code for eligible rewards. It is getting tougher to double and triple stack rewards so to a certain extent, it isn’t quite worthwhile to use certain e-wallets.

Fave Pay also help in getting goodies from Google Pay and completing your Huat Pats.

Thank you in advance for using my referral code.

Scratch Cards for EZ Link Simply Go

I know this can be rather complicated. It took me a while to find out what is this Simply Go ezl concept. It has come to us that we can already use Mastercard and Visa card to tap in and use it for our public transport these days. Here, I think Ezlink is plugging a gap for those without credit cards. (Though I don’t quite see how that is possible to plug the gap when you also aim to use the credit card to top up the ezlink card.)

Scratch and Win Ang Pow for Simply Go EZ link card, sample screen shot of the game and how it looks like

Nonetheless, with CNY round the corner. EZ Link launched their conversation from a normal EZ Link Card via their Station Machines also known as the Ticketing Machines. It takes about one minute to convert the ezlink card to a “Simply Go” one so that one can top up online instead of queuing up physically. With this upgrade, there is a free $2 added to the card and with ever transport use, you get a scratch card which gives you a cashback amount into your converted Simply Go EZ Link Card. Easy to understand now?

The look and feel of the e-wallet that shows the ezlink screen.

If you have some time to spend and use the public transport a little here and there then please do use my referral code “4005114” when you register for the game. Good Luck and thank you in advance.

So I tried it out and it came with two standard scratch cards which gave me a total of $0.44 cents instantly which isn’t too bad for doing nothing except for the initial conversion. It will take about a minute at the ticketing machine so beware for the crowd behind you.

Google Pay 2023 Huat Pals

This year, 2023, GPay has updated and made minor tweaks to their Huat Pals. Gone with BB Loh and Panda and incomes CNY goodies. I don’t know why but it intrigues me every year that I spend some time every year doing a little bit more research.

With the social aspect of CNY back after the Covid years previously, there are some additional items that give you more opportunities to get more goodies. That said, it also means you have to make more effort to get more.

More Ways to Huat. GPay Huat Pals

Step number one: You need to set up and download Google Pay for a start.

You can sign up for a new account here: g.co/payinvite/t74cf8f from your mobile app or use this link here at Download Google Pay you’ll earn $3 when you opt-in to Google Pay offers and rewards and make your first payment (min. $10)! Download the app and use my referral code t74cf8f to get started.

Next Step number two: You will need to understand how the mechanics work.

Now, different things tick with different folks so do what comforts you. Do take this article with a pinch of salt and a guide. If $8- $88 is not worth your effort then do proceed to do what comforts you and gets you more for your time. It should not make you anxious and keep your mind calm.

In order to get a scratch card or an opportunity to win prizes:

Once you have collected all 5 goodies, you will win one of the following (It is random so please don’t over-react if you don’t get any):

  1. Scratch card worth up to S$88.88; or
  2. Pixel 7 Pro worth S$1,299; or
  3. Pixel Buds Pro worth S$299
The GPay 2023 New Huat Pals. The new five characters for collecting scratch cards

The rare item that I am putting my money on is the gold/ingot. Just saying since it has an auspicious gold shine to it and google being google is pretty local in Singapore.

Once again, this game aims to have as much activity as possible. It isn’t a game of fastest fingers first so you kind of need to strategize and spend money in general.

Step number 3: Available and activity required to get goodies (This year there are more options) but also slightly more difficult to get it.

These are the same as what is in your app in the same order so GPay has nicely done it in a way that you can work on the tasks as if it is a list of times to fulfil daily.

A. PAYNOW to merchants (You can do it 1 time daily)

You need to spend a minimum of $5 to make this eligible. Small tip, YouTrip DOES NOT work Now. I’m sure there are other apps that work as well. I will make it subtle and quiet on each option.

If you do not have a YouTrip account. You can sign up here: Get your YouTrip Card now

You can get $5 when you top up your YouTrip card. (25 Jan 2023 Update: YouTrip, Shoppee Pay and CPF QR code works. The reset timing is 10 am daily. Please note. Sorry for the mis-information)

B. Make a FavePay transaction (You can do it 1 time daily)

In all honesty, this is pretty tough and you need to spend a minimum of $5 as well. However, if you have a merchant that uses FavePay, then it kills two birds with one transaction. My bad. Fave Pay transactions through GPay is from a bank payment or from PayLah. You can’t kill two birds with one transaction.

C. Use your Fave Pay cashback in a transaction (You can do it 1 time daily)

Well, again it is probably to reward those who go out of the way. You need to have Fave Pay cashback equivalent partners and this would offset options A, B & C, killing three birds with one transaction (I will have to test this out first before I update my article) meanwhile, today (19 Jan 2023) is the first day of Huat Pals launch from Gpay so there will be some exploration steps I need to take.

My bad again. cashback earned from the Fave Pay App doesn’t appear on GPay. So it has to be a repeat transaction. Again, good to know but difficult to execute once more. Also GPay has this few seconds lag which kind of stresses me a little with the queue behind me.

D. Tap to Pay (You can do it 1 time daily)

Yup. As simple as it gets. Contactless payment with a minimum of $5 charged.

E. Buy movie tickets on Google Pay (You can do it 1 time daily)

This is pretty clear-cut to me but I’m not the kind who purchases a movie ticket at GV or Shaw these days. The comfort of home and the price of movie tickets deter me. But again, it may work for others.

F. Split an expense with two other friends (You can do it 1 time daily)

Anyone knows that in an essay, the number 2 should be spelt as Two? Anyways I sidetracked. Instead of one friend to split expenses, you need two others. That means you are splitting your bills three-way including yourself with the minimum charge of $3.

G. Gift a goody to your friend (You can do it 5 times daily)

Finally, the last daily activity is to give your extra goodies to another friend (Aka trade) Those who know where to trade will know. It takes a bit of effort but yeah just enjoy the process.

Step number 4: Additional quiz or mission-style requests

So random quizzes or daily requests such as taking photos of items will get you additional goodies and these come in random. These are known as Huat Scanner and Huat Quizzes. (It is a QR scanner and answering quizzes) My thoughts are similar to how google search functions. The more you engage in the activity, the more these requests will pop up. Though random, there is some AI to it (i.e. robots related) We will not know but like any other games you played before, the more active you are, the more likely you are going to level up and do better. Whether it gets difficult, I’m not sure but let’s just have fun.

Huat Scanner Sample that is available daily on GPay Huat Pals

Side note, thank you google for the media announcement but perhaps you can send it to me earlier than the next event because my day starts, I have a day job and creating all these takes time and effort. You are always welcome to reach out to me to have a chat via my email. I’m happy to explore. Cheers anyway for providing media items so that I do not have to source for those on my own.

Conclusion

I can’t tell anyone this is worth your time to do all these because we have different values in terms of time and what it gives back to you. However, during the promotion period, there will be changes as Google work on bugs and several things to make sure that they can be as fair as possible to everyone. May luck be with you. Remember two things: The more you want something, the less it will come to you. (Because of the state of the mind) & This should not shun you away from doing the proper and real things in life that matters to you. (Be real, be yourself)

Huat Pals is back

So, Google Pay has reignited Huat Pals and BB Loh is back. For this season, the Panda is the tough one to achieve digitally. On Telegram, plenty of people are just free riding on the free cash  prize without reading or understanding the rules of the game. For some, they are just gaming the system to maximum their probability.

Huat Pals

From 25 January till 15 February 2022, Google Pay users can collect Huat pals each time they complete the following actions on Google Pay:

  1. Making eligible transactions of min. S$5 to merchants via Google Pay. Such transactions include:
    • Tap & Pay (Android Only) or Purchase movie tickets or
    • Order food via Google Pay app
    • Once a day
    • Scan and Pay (via FavePay QR, PayNow SGQR, or a UEN) [Do the 5 times $5 Paynow top up for Singtel Dash app]
  2. Referring new users to Google Pay who make their first qualifying payment of min. S$10 (Once a day)
  3. Gifting Huat pals to friends (5 gift to 5 different users, once a day)

Conclusion

Good luck on collecting the Huat Pals but do it without affecting your mental health. Have fun doing so.

Series 3: Starting your journey on Crypto on Defi with Cake DFI tokens

I was lured by the high yields of CakeDefi which is roughly around 80% or at point of writing. This is accounted for in APY (Annual Percentage Yield) by staking. I signed up about 3 months ago but failed to take any action on this. Given how cash interest rates is just no longer interesting, I’ve been looking to invest my cash.

You can find out more here: CakeDeli Link

The crypto space is really intriguing. I’ve been reading trying my best to keep up with the crypto world but it is extremely dynamic but I do see use and real world cases which we can tap on and try to make a deal out of these new coins/system.

I decided to put in SGD$100 into Cakedefi as an experiment to see what rewards I’ll get in the next three months or so as a regular monthly updates similar to what I have been doing for my own robo advisors accounts.

If you are keen to join Cakedefi, here’s how to do it online:

Registration

  • Head to my referral link below (QR code or referral code) to set up your Cakedefi account.
    • Rewards: Get a total of US$30 worth of DFI ($20 worth of DFI when you sign up and make a deposit of $50 or more + $10 referral reward)
  • KYC applies – you’d need to standby a pic of you with your IC (and writing date and the stuff that you are applying for – their website will guide you), and upload proof of your addresses through your banking statement or utilities bill.
  • KYC approval time is fast so you can do this rather quickly.
I’m only trying out the staking on DFI and not farming for other stuff. I have yet to be convinced by CakeDefi so I will only play small money here.

How do we begin? To make the CAKE, you’d need the main ingredient: DeFi coin.
  1. First, transfer BTC from Gemini to your Cake wallet at here
    • I chose Gemini because of their 10 free withdrawal per month
    • I chose BTC because there’s no deposit fee
    • There are also many ways to do it. However take note that buying BTC with cash on Gemini is a $4 charge per transaction.
  2. Transfer from Gemini to Cake is pretty fast as well:
    • Email from Gemini: Your Bitcoin withdrawal has been confirmed
    • Email from Cake: Your deposit is being processed. You will receive another email when your deposit is successful.
  3. Once you have BTC in your Cake wallet, click on “Swap” at DeFi column
  4. OR, head to staking page  where you can swap + stake in one page.
I received 11.4 ish DeFi coins which works out to be around USD$2.63 per coin.

Referral Reward

Upon deposit of US$50 coins and above, I received notification of the bonus DFI:

The bonus DFI that is worth USD 30 is frozen for the next 180 days and is already working for you. Currently you get paid the base APY plus a little bonus %.

Free money to take but take note that the bonus will be locked for 180 days.

As most would caution, maybe these will turn into ZERO so only do it if you are comfortable.

If you already intend to stake with CakeDefi, pls use my referral link here where you’d get a total of US$30 worth of DFI ($20 worth of DFI when you sign up and make a deposit of $50 or more + $10 referral reward)

Series 2: Starting your journey on Crypto with the Revolut Card

There is a little frenzy about crypto credit/debit cards these days. They have these multi-currency features, money transfer options and split billing which kind of attracts me to these functions. Revolut is one of those cards other than crypto.com which give a cashback but it set themselves apart by being a money manager as well. It is less of crypto trading but a simple was to get into the things of crypto. Again, this is just getting to start on the crypto journey. They are proving time and again that this is going be a force to be reckon with as compared to fiat (Normal cash and currency)

The Revolut Credit Card

Revolut is a digital banking app and card that focuses on technology, low fees and premium features. It’s designed for those who travel frequently and offers ways to spend abroad, including international money transfers with no hidden fees. There is only one physical card and limited services if you take on the free service. However, if you wish to upgrade to a more premium tier. You can always do so later on so no worries about those first until you try them out Some of the more interesting local context is that Revolut tries hard to bring in new partnerships such as 20% cashback on public transport by using the card and so on. Brands such as Nike.sg, Lazada, Decathlon and iHerb is already on their cashback programme. I find that these cashback returns are pretty decent and you can redirect your funds to purchasing cryptocurrency if you wish to. Otherwise, you can just leave that as cash.

Some features

With Revolut, you can do the following:
  • Use it as a debiting account. You can set up recurring payments, transfer or request for funds and withdraw cash at international ATMs. You’ll be able to view your balance on an analytics screen.
  • Make international payments. The app lets you transfer money to 150 countries, fee-free, at the interbank exchange rate.
  • Spend globally fee-free. All spending abroad is also charged at the interbank rate.
  • Hold different currencies in your account. You can hold a balance or make an exchange in the app in 28 currencies.
  • Pay friends or request payments. You’re able to pay other people, request for payments, or use the split-bill feature to divide a group spend with ease.
  • View spending habits. Using analytics, your can view your spending and track them like a money manager
  • Control your card and account. You can lock and unlock your card in the Revolut app as well as set monthly spending limits.
  • Save money. They have a vault feature let you build up funds for a specific funding goal. This is not a bank account so you do not earn any interest. This kinds of reminds me of what Hugo Wealth Card can do.
  • Rewards. Benefit from personalised cashback and discounts when you spend at Revolut’s partner merchants, including Amazon, Lazada, Nike and Zalora.
  • Instant balance top-up. Reload funds from your bank account to your Revolut account fast and conveniently.
  • Customer service available 24/7. Get in touch with customer service directly through Revolut’s app. Paid accounts are also entitled to concierge service and priority customer support.
  • No credit check. You do not need to show a salary or paycheck to get a limit as this is as good as a debit card.

Promotion and perks for signing up:

Sign up with my link and get 25 SGD after you order a card and complete 3 purchases all before the 5th October 2021. While you await the physical card you can use a virtual card as all actions must be completed before the deadline. https://revolut.com/referral/paulbo2uw!SEP1AGG Read more about the Terms and Conditions here at Terms & Conditions

Revolut Junior

On top of what is offered, you can still create and order a Junior card if your kid is above 15 years old and it is a good time to teach about personal finance and budgeting. I think this is pretty cool for an added value option.

Christmas Dash

I’m not a big fan of Singtel but as usual, don’t go against anyone or anything that gives you a decent deal. Dash is basically a digital payment App. They have developed the interface to include deals and a rewards scheme if you use their app to buy, remit or top up SIM card or international air time. Basically, like a grabpay app but suited to fit in their own services.

If you use Singtel Dash to shop, dine and spend this festive period, Dash users will earn a bonus chance to shake the Dash snow globe within the app and win a sure-win prize so long they meet any of the criteria from now till 31 Dec 2020:

  • Make a min $20 hi! SIM card top-up / Make an international air time top-up of $10
  • Make a purchase of minimum $10
  • Remitting $400

SNACK – Microinsurance

As I have said, I am a firm believer of insurance but not a firm believer of agents. I am of the mind that there are invested interest. Even the most honest guy needs to earn a living but I have yet to find anyone who is able to pass my test. More often than not, I tend to DIY on my own so most of my plans are generally bought online. The exception is that during the early years, agents used to manage those that I bought.

Why Insurance?

Let’s face it. Everyone needs to transfer their risk and that is a fact. Whether it is term or whole life plans, it is up for a debate but no best answer. You need health insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, travel insurance, car insurance and the list goes on. My only grip is that DIY stuff comes cheap but you have to figure out how to to that on your own. Nothing wrong with that but it comes in as a pain when you don’t have time to manage those stuff.

Try Microinsurance

Personally, I feel that it is fine to try out a cheaper alternative of insurance just to get yourself covered at the lowest cost possible. SNACK is by Income and recently introduced this concept of microinsurance. I find it appealing personally coming from someone who understand how these things work. It kind of like supplement what i have existingly.

I think that the Income branding is starting to change and this helps with the brand image. At least they try to speak the millenia language. Next, I find that with such low cost products – There will be less barrier to entry. The difficulty in this solution is to educate people. It is much easier to say that it is complicated than trying to find out what this is all about.

Once you sign up online and register the amount you can commit daily, every document will be sent to you via email or digitally. Quite simply, I would say.

They are 3 ways your can choose to buy insurance from (Choose 1 or whatever you need):

a. Critical Illness

b. Personal Accident

c. Life Insurance.

You can also trigger these daily costs from a few parts:

a.  Redeeming a deal from Burpple or pay for meals using a VISA card.

b. Commuting bus, train or cab and pay for it using a VISA card.

c. Through retailing and purchases using a linked VISA card.

d. Shopping for groceries using a linked VISA card.

e. Through entertainment and paying using a linked VISA card.

f. Topping up petrol and paying using a linked VISA card.

g. Pay your utilities and paying using a linked VISA card.

h. Activate your fitbit app and fulfilling your daily steps.

You may be thinking what happens if you hit every objective. There is a limit to the premiums charged to your credit or debit card depending on the weekly cap you’ve set up. Once you’ve hit this weekly cap, SNACK will no longer charge you premiums when you complete lifestyle triggers and you will not be issued any more policies for that week.

The minimum amount daily you can set is $0.30 and you can add on as many triggers as you wish.

There is also a cap on each insurance segment:

a. For Personal Accident, the cap is at $100,000

b. For Life Insurance, the cap is at $200,000

c. For Critical Illness, the cap is at $200,000

These insurance are known as non-participating policies so the moment you stop paying for these, the coverage will stop. To me it is a stop-gap kind of coverage and at an extremely low cost. If you are looking at the full suite, take time to understand and learn. You will definitely benefit from the knowledge and to suss out your new insurance agent. Whether they are in it for the long term or to hit and run. We will never know unless we experience and have the basic knowledge.
